Yes! We are partnering with Howard College San Angelo to provide a Beginner’s ASL course starting in March of 2022. In the summer of this year, we will be hosting an Intermediate ASL class at the Apostolic House of Worship in San Angelo, Texas. In the fall, we will be hosting “ASL in the Workplace” at Apostolic House of Worship, in addition to our 2nd annual ASL Camp in October. This was a big hit last year, and we are hoping it will be bigger and better this year! We will also be hosting a presentation and Q&A session at Education Service Center Region XV, in addition to an ASL class for parents. For more information or to get on our waiting list, please contact us at 325-450-5090 or email us at aslhandsup@gmail.com.

What is the cost of your services?
Our classes range between $100-$200, depending on the length of the class (4- to 10-weeks). If you want private lessons, they are $35/hour. Interpreting services are offered on a contractual basis, with a $55/hour administrative fee per invoice, and a two-hour minimum charge per appointment, in keeping with the standards for the field of interpreting. Court interpreting is a specialized field with different pricing, so please call us at 325-450-5090 or email at aslhandsup@gmail.com for more information about this type of interpreting service. We do not have prices for consulting services, as we are not currently able to offer this. We hope to have this information soon.
What services do you offer?
We specialize in providing quality ASL/English interpreting services that satisfy ADA requirements for effective communication and reasonable accommodations. We also offer group ASL classes and individualized private lessons and tutoring. In addition, we offer classes/professional development to companies or agencies, if they desire their employees to have knowledge of sign language. We are currently beginning to add consulting to our repertoire. Stay tuned for updates in 2022.
Our group classes are very popular. Our classes are typically between 10-20 people and run anywhere from 4-10 weeks, with 1- to 3-hour classes each week (please see the individual class flyer for more information). Our classes are typically held at the Apostolic House of Worship, in San Angelo, Texas, which sponsors us. Howard College San Angelo will also be hosting a class in the spring of 2022.
If you are desiring your employees to learn ASL for your company (if deaf or hard of hearing people frequent your restaurant, bank tellers, stores, etc.) to provide a more comfortable environment for your deaf or hard of hearing customers, we offer classes and professional development tailored to your specific needs. Please note: Providing ASL classes to your employees does not replace an interpreter, which is needed for staff meetings, job interviews, filling out legal forms, receiving services from your company, and more. If you are needing interpreter services or would like more information, please contact us at 325-450-5090 or aslhandsup@gmail.com, or fill out the form on the “Request Interpreter” tab.
Our private lessons are developed on a case-by-case basis. Upon filling out the registration form, you will be asked about your current knowledge level and your goal for learning American Sign Language. We will use this information to develop a curriculum plan. You can also indicate how often you want to have a lesson. Most people prefer weekly lessons, but this may not be an option for everyone. We offer monthly, bi-monthly (two times a month), weekly, and bi-weekly (two times a week) lessons. We will also work with your schedule and comfort, offering lessons via Zoom, in-person, mornings, afternoons, evenings, and weekends.
What is ASL?
ASL stands for American Sign Language. It is the language of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals both in the United States and Canada. Although some people speak and sign at the same time, be aware! ASL is not the same as English. It is a separate language with its own grammar and syntax. ASL is a visual-spatial language, which means it uses space, body movements, facial expressions, mouth movements, AND signs!
